Spectrum IT opts for Volcanic's easy to buy technology

3 months ago by Alison Owen

When Spectrum IT wanted to update their website, they wanted not only a fresh new look, but, importantly, were looking for a site developed by recruitment industry specialists who would bring experience of the sector to the project.

Following research and referrals from trusted contacts, Volcanic emerged as the obvious choice.

Nicole Doughton, Social Marketing Manager at Spectrum IT explains: “We wanted to refresh the website to keep it current and to create a better candidate experience. Whilst our old site looked great, we felt that the user experience could be improved.

“As IT recruitment experts, it’s essential we keep up to date with developments in technology. Our website must reflect our expertise while also capturing the brand personality of Spectrum - no easy task. We were also keen to retain elements of our existing branding, particularly the iconic characters that we’d created which form a key part of our visual identity.

Delivering on brief

“We had confidence from the outset that the Volcanic team understood our brief. They not only took on board the design elements we wanted to keep, but improved on them, evolving our brand image to give us a more modern look while retaining core elements.”

Ben Easterbrook, delivery director at Volcanic said: “We take many factors into account when implementing a user experience (UX) design. For example, we design for mobile first, as long as your candidate demographic demands it, rather than take a more typical design route of starting with large screen, then scaling it down into a responsive format.

Creating a strong UX

“A good user experience leads the candidate down a predetermined path through the website - without them even realising - and delivers great results in terms of registrations, applications and conversions, as well as repeat business.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with the team at Spectrum IT, because they had such a clear vision of their end result. We always interrogate our client’s brief to make sure we not only understand it, but can deliver it in a way that utilises our knowledge of best industry practice as well as great design.”

Collaborative project management

Nicole continues: “The project was driven entirely by Volcanic, which is exactly what we needed. While we had a clear vision of what we wanted, we relied on Volcanic’s experience and support in developing the great candidate experience we were looking to bring to our business.

“We also felt this was a true collaboration, with the team at Volcanic, especially our project manager Helen Taylor, keeping us informed of progress every step of the way. A particular stand out was Volcanic’s willingness to listen to our needs and implement the specific feature requests that we needed to support our vision.

Meaningful reporting and analytics

“A big gain for us has been the reporting facility on the Volcanic platform, which lets us track candidate registrations and applications for meaningful analysis and improvements.”

Project manager at Volcanic Helen Taylor concludes: “I’ve really enjoyed working with Nicole and the team on this exciting project. Creating a successful website for the recruitment industry is about much more than just a beautiful looking design. The best websites in recruitment balance form with function to deliver a strong user experience while promoting the company brand. At Volcanic, we have years of experience in delivering successful recruitment websites and our platform offers candidates a UX that is second to none.”
