The significant growth of mobile usage in the last few years has meant that more and more agencies are having to design their clients websites to work across a number of devices from mobile, tablet, laptop to large screen.
Here are some interesting facts about the usage of mobile
- In Q3 2010 only 4% of visitors to a website used their mobile
- In Q3 2011 this went up to 10%
- However in Q3 2012 a staggering 40% of visitors were using a mobile device
This is predicted to reach 80% by 2015 however the most interesting fact I’ve seen is that in 2013 the visits by mobile is set to overtake that from a desktop.
As an agency we now design all our sites to be responsive but what is responsive layout?
The technology is rather simple, using the latest HTML5 to provide an optimal viewing experience to allow for easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling which can apply across a wide range of devices (from desktop computer monitors to mobile phones). we have been successfully using this now for the last 2 years with amazing results.
